Specialist Teacher (SEND / ASD / SLCN)

We are working with a Local Authority that is looking for several Specialist Teachers of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND / ASD / SLCN) in the Southend area.

Salary: 46,586 - 51,763 (depending on experience).

Location: Southend of the Sea, Essex. (predominately school based, some working from home and office)

Start Date: ASAP

Job Purpose:

  • Deliver high quality specialist support to children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEND) who have needs relating to one or more of the following areas (including but not limited to): Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Speech Language and Communication Difficulties (SLCN) and/or Severe Learning Difficulties.
  • Assess the needs of children and young people with SEND through early identification and intervention (when required).
  • Provide support, advice and guidance to schools and settings to improve provision and outcomes for children and young people with SEND.
  • Support and deliver modelling and training to schools and settings, and where appropriate, professionals and partner agencies on SEND matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality specialist support to children and young people with SEND, including Autism, communication difficulties, and severe learning differences.
  • Support schools with assessment, early identification, and tailored intervention strategies.
  • Offer up-to-date advice and training on inclusive teaching practices and curriculum adaptations to improve outcomes for learners with SEND.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of interventions and inclusive practices, identifying and addressing gaps in progress.
  • Deliver CPD and contribute to performance reviews, quality assurance, and statutory processes.
  • Collaborate with schools, the local authority, and external partners to strengthen inclusion and implement the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Act as a key contact for professional advice and ensure safeguarding and risk management practices are followed.
  • Stay current with legislation, policy, and best practices in SEND, contributing to service development and improvement.

Essential:

  • QTS Qualified.
  • Minimum of 8-10 yrs teaching experience
  • Must have leadership experience eg Senco, or Specialist experience such as running a provision, ARP, Unit, Special School.
