Specialist Teacher (SEND / SEMH)
We are working with a Local Authority that is looking for several Specialist Teachers of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND / SEMH) in the Southend area.
Salary: 46,586 - 51,763 (depending on experience).
Location: Southend of the Sea, Essex. (predominately school based, some working from home and office)
Start Date: ASAP
Job Purpose:
- Provide specialist support, advice and guidance to schools, parents and colleagues in the development of inclusive strategies and interventions for students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
- Assess the needs of children and young people with SEND through early identification and intervention (when required).
- Provide support, advice and guidance to schools and settings to improve provision and outcomes and wellbeing for children and young people with SEND/SEMH needs.
- Support and deliver modelling and training to schools and settings, and where appropriate, professionals and partner agencies on SEND matters.
- Contribute to service and policy development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality support for children and young people with SEMH/SEND needs.
- Conduct specialist SEMH assessments.
- Advise schools/settings on early identification, intervention, and inclusive practices.
- Design and implement bespoke intervention programmes (emotional regulation, social skills, resilience).
- Develop and monitor behaviour management plans.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
- Provide advice, training, and signposting to families and carers.
- Lead and deliver training and CPD for schools and settings.
- Support schools in improving outcomes and inclusive practice.
- Stay updated on SEND/SEMH legislation and policy.
- Contribute to service development, quality assurance, and performance review processes.
- Work with Southend City Council, schools, settings, and partner agencies to promote inclusion.
- Act as a professional point of contact for advice and support.
- Operate within the safeguarding framework, promoting the well-being of children and young people.
Essential:
- QTS Qualified.
- Minimum of 8-10 yrs teaching experience
- Must have leadership experience eg Senco, or Specialist experience such as running a provision, ARP, Unit, Special School.
