Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity as a Specialist Podiatrist within the Herts Valley Integrated Diabetes Service (HIDS), based in West Hertfordshire. In this role, you will work across HIDS and play a key part in maintaining the integrity of the foot in diabetes, aiming to prevent long-term complications. You will communicate effectively and foster close working relationships with colleagues across partner organisations, external agencies, and services within HCT. You will ensure clear communication with patients, carers, and other health or social care professionals, sharing treatment plans that may involve complex, sensitive, or emotive information and overcoming barriers to understanding where necessary. You will maintain health and safety standards for staff, patients, and visitors, promptly reporting any actual or potential issues

Main duties of the job

As a Specialist Podiatrist, you will deliver high-quality, patient-focused care by assessing, diagnosing, and developing specialized and complex treatment plans for individuals with diabetes and associated co-morbidities. You will provide expert podiatry care in community clinics and multidisciplinary outpatient settings, while collaborating with patients to create tailored treatment plans that support their health and wellbeing. In addition, you will identify clinical risks and take appropriate action using established reporting structures. You will adhere to policies, procedures, clinical guidelines, and care pathways, ensuring patient records and documentation meet HCPC standards. Flexibility is essential, as you may be required to work across different bases to support HIDS service needs during staff absence or illness.

Job Roles & Responsibilities

  • To assess, diagnose and implement evidence-based care programmes independently for a wide range of patients with diabetes.
  • To request, perform and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests to support accurate clinical decision-making.
  • To identify and initiate internal or external referrals for further assessment or treatment where appropriate.
  • To deliver podiatry services across diverse clinical settings, including health centres, community clinics, and acute inpatient and outpatient environments.
  • To provide foot health education to patients, carers, and families, empowering them to manage their condition effectively.
  • To maintain responsibility for clinical equipment and stock levels in line with departmental protocols, ensuring resources are safe and available.

Person Specification & Qualification

  • Diploma or Degree in Podiatry with current HCPC registration
  • Evidence of CPD & Certificate in Local Anaesthesia.
  • Post-registration experience in diabetes care, ideally within NHS and community settings.
  • Knowledge of the lower limb complications associated with diabetes
  • Knowledge of SystemOne
  • Holds a full UK driving licence and has access to a car
