1:1 Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant

Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire
Hours: 30 hours per week
Contract: Term-time only
Start Date: ASAP

Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to provide tailored support to a pupil with special educational needs. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider school staff to support the pupil's academic, social, and emotional development, ensuring they can fully access the curriculum and school life.

Key Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 support to a pupil with identified special educational needs, both in and out of the classroom

Support learning activities, adapting tasks and resources to meet individual needs

Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies

Promote independence, confidence, and positive behaviour

Support the pupil's social and emotional development, including during transitions, break times, and structured activities

Monitor progress and provide feedback to the class teacher and SENCO

Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and external professionals as required

Ensure safeguarding and health & safety procedures are followed at all times

Essential Requirements

Prior and relevant experience working with children with special educational needs (e.g. ASD, ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH, or learning difficulties)

A good understanding of inclusive education and SEN support strategies

Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with children

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Patience, empathy, and resilience

Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)

Experience working in a primary or secondary school setting

Training in behaviour management, autism support, or related SEN areas
