About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Primary Engineer to join our leading engineering company, working on National Grid and SSE projects. This hybrid position offers a dynamic work environment, blending office-based work in Stafford with the flexibility of remote working. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to critical infrastructure projects, with an initial 6-month contract and a strong likelihood of extension.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Primary Design: Lead and execute primary design tasks for National Grid and SSE projects, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and specifications.
  • Project Management: Coordinate and manage project deliverables, timelines, and resources to ensure successful project execution.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide technical guidance and support to project teams, clients, and stakeholders on primary engineering aspects.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including secondary engineers, civil engineers, and project managers, to ensure integrated project solutions.
  • Documentation: Prepare, review, and approve design documentation, technical reports, and drawings.
  • Compliance: Ensure all designs and implementations comply with National Grid and SSE standards, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve technical issues and challenges that may arise during the design and implementation phases.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes, methodologies, and tools.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Primary Design Experience: Proven experience in primary design within the power transmission and distribution sector is essential.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of primary engineering principles, electrical systems, and grid infrastructure.
  • Project Experience: Demonstrated experience working on National Grid, SSE, or similar large-scale utility projects.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with relevant standards, regulations, and industry practices (e.g., IEC, IEEE, NGTS, SSE specifications).
  • Software Skills: Proficiency in engineering design software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar).
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to various stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Education: Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is preferred.
