  • We are seeking a Democratic Services Officer with substantial experience in democratic services. This role involves direct support and collaboration with the Head of Democratic & Electoral Services to enhance strategic direction and development, ensuring transparent and successful local decision-making.

    Day-to-Day of the Role:
  • Clerk a full range of the Council’s committee meetings (Regulatory, Scrutiny, and Area Governance), including providing advice during meetings and potentially clerking Cabinet meetings in the absence of senior colleagues.
  • Utilize systems such as mod.gov (Issue Manager), webcasting systems (Public-i), and remote meeting technology (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Connect Remote) proficiently.
  • Support the Mayor and civic functions, including arranging civic events throughout the year.
  • Develop and mentor the team, supervise junior colleagues, and manage any scale 2 members and apprentices.
  • Provide high-quality, cost-effective corporate and support services, ensuring the management and delivery of services are holistic and evaluated for quality and efficiency.
  • Offer professional advice and guidance to meet statutory requirements and mitigate risks, ensuring resource management delivers value for money and drives out inefficiencies.
  • Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience in clerking council committee meetings and understanding local authority decision-making frameworks.
  • Proficiency in mod.gov, Public-i, Microsoft Teams, Connect Remote, and Synergy (School Admission Appeals).
  • Experience in supporting electoral services, including the delivery of elections and clerking School Admission Appeals.
  • Ability to develop team capabilities, supervise, mentor, and manage junior staff and apprentices.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to provide strategic support to service managers.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
