An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead a specialist Overhaul Department within a growing engineering business in Stroud.This hands-on role focuses on the overhaul and maintenance of variable pitch propellers used in a wide range of aircraft. It's ideally suited to someone who takes pride in precision, craftsmanship, and quality control.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the end-to-end propeller overhaul process
- Disassemble and clean components for inspection
- Carry out visual and dimensional checks using tools such as micrometers, verniers, and height gauges
- Identify and replace worn or damaged parts
- Perform zinc-nickel plating on components when required
- Prepare and balance blades for painting
- Rebuild propellers to strict specifications
- Maintain accurate records for all overhaul activity
- Supervise junior team members and maintain a tidy workshop environment
Lead Mechanical Engineer Job Requirements
- Strong mechanical engineering knowledge
- Experience in aerospace or aviation engineering is a bonus
- Proficiency with technical drawings and measurement instruments
- Practical, hands-on engineering skills
- High attention to detail and quality standards
- Ability to work independently and within a small team
- Positive, proactive attitude
- Interest in aviation or heritage engineering is a bonus
- Must be based locally and within a commutable distance to Stroud
Lead Mechanical Engineer Salary & Benefits
- £40,000 - £44,700 per year
- Full-time, Permanent
- Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm (40 hours/week)
- 28 days holiday (including bank holidays)
