The Role
My client is seeking an experienced Manual Machinist knowledge to join a busy and growing machine shop. The role involves setting up, operating, and maintaining manual machines to produce precision-engineered components. Working from technical drawings, blueprints, and job instructions, the machinist will ensure that all parts are produced accurately, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient use of workshop equipment, with duties including:

  • Operating and setting up manual lathes, mills, and related machinery.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and job instructions.
  • Performing accurate machining operations, ensuring all work meets required tolerances.
  • Using precision measuring equipment (e.g., micrometres, callipers, gauges) to inspect components.
  • Monitoring machine performance and making adjustments to maintain accuracy and efficiency.
  • Maintaining accurate records of production activity.
  • Supporting continuous improvement and working with colleagues to resolve technical challenges.
  • Keeping the workshop clean, safe, and well organised.
  • Assisting in training or supporting less experienced team members when required.
  • Experience with EDM/Wire machines would be an advantage.

The Candidate
Skilled in manual machining (mills and lathes).

Able to read and work confidently from engineering drawings.

Basic understanding of CNC lathe operation.

Confident in the use of precision measuring instruments.

Good literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving skills.

Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Previous experience in a workshop or precision engineering environment is essential.
