Responsibilities
  • Provide expert legal advice and support to various departments within Swindon Borough Council.
  • Prepare and review legal documents, contracts, and agreements to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Represent the council in legal proceedings, including court appearances and negotiations.
  • Collaborate with external legal advisors and stakeholders to achieve favorable outcomes for the council.
  • Conduct legal research and stay updated on legislative changes that may impact the council’s operations.
  • Manage and prioritize a diverse caseload effectively to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality legal services.
Person Specification
  • Qualified solicitor with a valid practicing certificate.
  • Proven experience in local government or public sector legal work is desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex legal information.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and upholding professional ethics.
  • Proficient in using legal research tools and software.
