We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Stress Engineer to join our client who specialise in the design, manufacture and installation of Product Handling Equipment within a variety of engineering industries.

An experienced Stress Engineer is required to support the mechanical engineering department with machine and structures design verification.

  1. The client
    1. Our client is an engineering company specialising in the design, manufacture and installation of product handling systems.
    2. Full turnkey solutions - Offering Electrical and Controls engineering undertaken from another site, Mechanical and Hydraulic engineering is taken care of at the Telford office. The full turnkey solution is then built and tested in Telford before being shipped and installed at site.
    3. Our client supports its customer worldwide in many industry sectors, both onshore and offshore. Industries supported by our client include Oil and Gas, Renewables, Oceanographic Survey and Defence.
  2. About the Role
    1. An experienced Stress Engineer is required to support the mechanical engineering department with machine and structures design verification.
    2. The stress engineer will support the principal engineer to ensure all designs are suitably assessed and verified.
    3. Each design shall be reviewed to determine the most appropriate verification method before undertaking the verification assessment themselves or overseeing another design engineer undertake the assessment.
    4. Design verification reports are to be authored and calculation packages compiled for the technical file and/or for third party design verification.
  3. Responsibilities
  • Identify loads acting equipment and structures
  • Define load paths acting through equipment and structures
  • Define foundation loads
  • Strength and deflection assessment for equipment and structural verification
  • Design code compliance
  • Proficient in FEA and manual calculation techniques
  • Development of calculation templates for departmental use
  • Training and supporting design engineers in design verification methods
  1. Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum HNC in mechanical engineering and completion of technical apprenticeship scheme.

10 years in a similar role

Offshore design with knowledge of DNV, LR, ABS, BV design codes

Relevant industry sectors including lifting, cranes, industrial and structural engineering

Machinery Directive and/or Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations
