People Solutions are currently recruiting for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our well-established client based in Tipton on a full-time, permanent basis. This is a fantastic opportunity offering an excellent annual salary and room to grow and progress. The Manufacturing Engineer reports to the Head of Manufacturing and plays a key role in optimising manufacturing processes and driving continuous improvement.

Hours of Work37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm.

Salary£45,000–£50,000 per year.

Day to Day Duties

  • Provide technical manufacturing knowledge and guidance from design through to completion, supporting Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
  • Facilitate and achieve process improvements, including investment proposals and business case creation to demonstrate gains in productivity, efficiency, or quality.
  • Identify and eliminate waste across all stages of the manufacturing process.
  • Instruct the most efficient methods for manufacturing components and assemblies, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
  • Generate and maintain manufacturing documentation, including inspection and test plans (MITP), work orders, work instructions, procedures, and drawings.
  • Review design drawings and plans to ensure they can be manufactured efficiently and reliably.
  • Support the establishment of new manufacturing facilities, including process development, operator training, plant commissioning, 5S, and capability studies.
  • Input, control, and update manufacturing data in production control and MRP systems.
  • Provide support to other Manufacturing Engineers and assist with automated facilities and equipment, such as COBOTs.
  • Undertake make/buy assessments based on cost, capability, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Support tendering processes by developing manufacturing strategies.
  • Raise and resolve NCRs using analytical methods such as 5 Why’s, DMAIC, and root cause analysis.
  • Ensure manufacturing documentation, drawings, and quality updates are current and followed throughout production.

Essential Skills

  • Graduate engineer, preferably in manufacturing, with at least 4 years’ experience.
  • Knowledge of at least two manufacturing processes (machining, mechanical assembly, welding).
  • Strong ability to communicate clear instructions verbally and in writing to people of varying experience levels.
  • Organised and methodical approach to reviewing designs and improving manufacturability.
  • Ability to produce detailed manufacturing instructions for planners, operators, inspectors, and quality engineers.
  • Cost- and time-focused mindset, with an understanding of “right first time” principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and ability to learn and use in-house software systems.

Desirable Skills

  • Expertise in programming and use of industrial robots.
  • Experience in process improvement, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of automated manufacturing systems and COBOT operation.

Training

  • On-the-job training in manufacturing processes, automated equipment, and software systems.
  • Continuous professional development in lean principles and process improvement techniques.
  • Guidance on company-specific manufacturing standards and documentation procedures.
