Job Title: Social Worker – Placements TeamLocation: Vale of GlamorganSalary: £36,124 – £44,711 per annum (dependent on experience)Contract Type: PermanentHours: Full-timeAbout the Role The Placements Team within the Vale of Glamorgan Council assesses and approves foster placements for children, working in conjunction with the Fostering Panel. The team supports kinship placements to enable children to remain within their wider family network, and provides professional support to foster carers to promote retention and stability.The team also includes a therapeutic service that works with children and their carers to promote placement stability and prevent disruption. This is an opportunity to join a dedicated team offering 24/7 professional fostering support, with access to a support line run solely by fostering staff.A worker in this team may be required to provide out-of-hours support, on average one overnight per week and less than one full weekend per month. An allowance is provided in addition to core wages; this is not a ‘waking night’ commitment.Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and approve foster placements, including kinship care arrangements.
  • Support foster carers and promote retention of local carers.
  • Identify and commission placements for children looked after, within internal and independent resources.
  • Provide professional out-of-hours advice and support to foster carers.
  • Work collaboratively with therapeutic and multidisciplinary services to promote placement stability.
Essential Criteria
  • Recognised social work qualification (Degree, DipSW, CQSW, or equivalent).
  • Registration with Social Care Wales.
  • Experience in statutory social work with children and families.
  • Knowledge of fostering legislation, guidance, and best practice.
  • Ability to provide professional support and guidance to foster carers.
