Team Manager (Solicitor) - Landlord and Tenant Litigation
  • Location: Uckfield, East Sussex

  • Salary: £50,000 rising to £52,500 after probation period

Join our dynamic Landlord and Tenant Litigation Department at a leading legal firm, where we handle a range of matters from standard and accelerated possession cases to complex defended proceedings. This role is ideal for a qualified solicitor with a passion for law and a desire to lead a team in delivering exceptional legal services.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Manage and supervise the department’s caseload, working closely with 3 fee earners.
  • Develop process plans for claims from inception to eviction and update templates as necessary.
  • Conduct 1-to-1 performance reviews, monitor staff performance, and manage annual leave.
  • Maintain client liaison, review and update department processes, including time recording and task setting targets.
  • Assess complaints, report to clients and the Practice COLP.
  • Attend law update conferences, either in-person or virtually.
  • Handle fee-earning work, dealing with defended and complex cases across various tracks.
  • Ensure compliance with court directions and orders, and manage correspondence with clients and other parties.
  • Issue possession claims and complete various court applications using both online and manual systems.
  • Produce instructions to advocates and counsel, and notices seeking possession.
  • Maintain and update case management information spreadsheets.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Must be a qualified solicitor with a minimum of two years' post-qualification experience (PQE). CILEx lawyers with equivalent experience are also considered.
  • Managerial experience or readiness to step into a management role.
  • Strong knowledge of landlord and tenant law, with in-house training available for candidates without specific L&T knowledge.
  • Proficient in Civil Procedure Rules and litigation procedures.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Organised and proactive, with the ability to work independently.
  • Confident in a small team environment and in dealing with clients and third parties.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

  • Office hours from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday, with an early close at 5:00 pm.
  • 26 days holiday plus all bank holidays, pro-rata.
