Our client is a leading manufacturing organisation with a strong commitment to environmental sustainability and sustainable business practices. Operating across multiple sites — from high-output production facilities to large-scale storage units — the business is seeking to appoint an experienced Environmental Manager to drive compliance, sustainability, and continuous improvement across its UK operations.

The Environmental Manager will take responsibility for developing, implementing, and monitoring environmental management systems across all company sites. This role plays a critical part in maintaining ISO 14001 certification and embedding sustainable practices throughout the organisation.

You will act as the environmental lead, partnering with operations, production, and senior leadership teams to reduce the organisation’s environmental footprint, improve recycling and waste management, and drive cultural engagement around sustainability.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the company’s ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) across all manufacturing and storage sites.
  • Ensure full compliance with environmental legislation, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Conduct regular site audits and inspections to monitor environmental performance.
  • Manage reporting and communication with regulatory bodies, including the Environment Agency.
  • Develop and deliver the company’s sustainability strategy, focusing on energy efficiency, waste reduction, and circular economy principles.
  • Drive recycling and waste segregation initiatives across all facilities.
  • Monitor, measure, and report on environmental KPIs and sustainability metrics.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, innovation, and environmental impact reduction.
  • Lead internal awareness campaigns and training programmes to embed a culture of sustainability.
  • Partner with HR and Operations to promote environmental engagement and employee ownership.
  • Support leadership teams in integrating environmental considerations into business decisions.
  • Support capital projects with environmental assessments and sustainability planning.
  • Liaise with external consultants, contractors, and waste management partners.
  • Contribute to the development of future sustainability certifications and carbon reduction initiatives.

Skills & Experience

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Sustainability, or related discipline.
  • Proven experience managing environmental compliance across multiple manufacturing or industrial sites.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 14001 and UK environmental legislation.
  • Track record of delivering sustainability and recycling programmes with measurable results.
  • Confident communicator and influencer with the ability to engage employees at all levels.
  • NEBOSH Environmental Certificate (or equivalent) desirable.
