Straight-line are currently hiring a Technical Contracts Engineer in Walsall

£40,000 – £44,000 per annum

Are you an experienced engineer with strong technical and commercial acumen? We’re looking for a Technical Contracts Engineer to play a vital role in coordinating engineering projects from initial enquiry through to final delivery.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a fast-paced, precision engineering environment, supporting complex fabrication and manufacturing projects. The Role

As a Technical Contracts Engineer, you’ll manage the technical and commercial aspects of client contracts, ensuring projects are delivered to specification, on time, and within budget. You’ll act as the bridge between clients, production teams, and internal departments, providing technical guidance and ensuring all contract requirements are met throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and process incoming project enquiries
  • Analyse requirements and compile detailed cost breakdowns (materials, labour, tooling, etc.)
  • Prepare accurate quotations and estimate man-hours
  • Process customer purchase orders and raise internal procurement requests
  • Develop detailed work packages and distribute documentation to production teams
  • Monitor project performance, budgets, and key milestones
  • Liaise closely with QA and production teams to ensure smooth project execution
  • Provide ongoing technical support and clarification throughout contract delivery
  • Design and assist with the development of bespoke fixtures and jigs
  • Support the integration of new equipment and manufacturing technologies
  • Assist with preparation of dispatch and invoicing documentation
  • Follow up on previous quotations and gather client feedback

About You

Minimum 3 years’ experience in an engineering or technical environment

 Level 3 or higher engineering qualification (or equivalent hands-on experience)

Solid understanding of engineering principles and practical trigonometry

Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings/specifications

Experience with 2D CAD and Microsoft Office

Strong interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Security Requirement:

Due to the nature of the projects, this role is only open to British nationals eligible for UK Government security clearance under UKSV procedures. This is a legal and regulatory requirement for the position.

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience in manufacturing environments involving pressure vessels, pipework, or heavy fabrication
  • Familiarity with QA procedures and production scheduling
  • Exposure to managing contracts in energy, oil & gas, or similar sectors
