One of my local government clients is currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate Rough Sleeper Support Worker to join Housing & Welfare Services Team. This vital role focuses on supporting some of the borough’s most vulnerable adults including rough sleepers, ex-offenders, and those at risk of homelessness to access safe accommodation, improve life skills, and work towards sustainable independent living.

You will play a key part in reducing repeat homelessness by providing practical support, advocacy, and guidance to help individuals break the cycle of rough sleeping.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach across Walsall to engage with rough sleepers and those at risk of homelessness.

  • Complete holistic risk and needs assessments, developing tailored support and risk management plans.

  • Assist individuals in securing and maintaining accommodation, and provide ongoing tenancy support.

  • Encourage engagement with education, employment, and community networks.

  • Maintain accurate case records, support plans, and outcomes documentation.

  • Collaborate with local agencies, partners, and internal teams to deliver effective housing support.

  • Be available for occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends in line with service demand.

About You

We’re looking for a motivated, empathetic, and resilient individual who is passionate about making a difference to people’s lives. You should be confident working with vulnerable adults and experienced in providing housing-related support or homelessness prevention services.

Essential skills and experience include:

  • Experience supporting vulnerable adults, rough sleepers, or those with complex needs (e.g. substance misuse, mental health, offending).

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and motivate service users.

  • Experience completing risk and needs assessments and developing support plans.

  • Knowledge of homelessness legislation, housing rights, and welfare benefits.

  • Ability to manage your own caseload and work flexibly to meet service needs.

  • Confident using IT systems to maintain accurate records and case notes.
