The School: The school is an education setting based for 16 – 25+ years old with Special Educational Needs. It is based on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school operate enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the local area. The school focuses on vocations like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills and animal care as well as many more, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide one-to-one and group support to learners aged 16–25+ with Special Educational Needs, helping them engage confidently in vocational and enterprise-based activities.
- Assist in the delivery of practical sessions across areas such as horticulture, agriculture, equine care, and animal husbandry, encouraging hands-on learning and real-world skill development.
- Support students’ personal, social, and emotional progress, promoting independence, confidence, and resilience in both indoor and outdoor learning environments.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and vocational instructors to ensure inclusive participation and adapt support strategies to meet individual learning needs.
- Help maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing environment across the 350-acre site, ensuring students are safe during physical and outdoor activities.
- Encourage students to build employability and life skills through meaningful, purposeful learning experiences that prepare them for future education, training, or work.
Candidate Expectations:
- A genuine passion for supporting young people and adults (16–25+) with Special Educational Needs, helping them grow in confidence, independence, and life skills.
- Willingness to work in a rural, outdoor environment, supporting learners across the school’s 350-acre Dorset countryside campus in a variety of practical settings.
- Interest or experience in vocational subjects such as horticulture, agriculture, equine care, or animal care, and the ability to assist learners during hands-on sessions.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work closely with teaching staff, vocational instructors, and other support workers to meet individual needs.
- Adaptable, patient, and proactive approach, capable of responding to the varied emotional and educational needs of students with SEN.
- Understanding of safeguarding and inclusive education practices, with a commitment to always maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment.
- A valid UK driving licence and a willingness to drive are essential for this role.
- Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
