About The Role

As a Senior Buyer in Category Management, you will play a crucial role in shaping procurement operations within your designated business area. You'll partner with the Category Manager to craft and deliver category strategies that align with business goals. Your expertise will drive high-value procurements for critical goods and services, ensuring the success of multi-billion-pound projects that have a national impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Sourcing: Develop category strategies, make commercial recommendations, and execute sourcing strategies to ensure best-in-class procurement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Manage strategic sourcing events, working with stakeholders to understand and challenge demand for optimal commercial solutions.
  • Category Strategy Development: Support and deliver assigned category strategies, sharing best practices across teams.
  • Market Analysis: Research supply markets, assess trends, and provide insights to global teams.
  • Tender Management: Manage tender events to deliver value for key business products.
  • Contract Management: Ensure successful delivery of contracted activities, identifying improvement opportunities and maximising value.
  • Leadership and Mentoring: Mentor Buyers and Associate Buyers, promoting excellence in procurement standards.
  • Forward Planning: Identify future requirements and ensure robust forecasting to maximise procurement value.

Skills and Experience

  • Significant experience in strategic sourcing and category management, ideally within a public sector procurement context. Experience with large-scale infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
  • CIPS qualification or similar is preferred.
  • Strong project management and procurement lifecycle skills.
  • Proven ability to manage supply chains and deliver value.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to develop and manage complex commercial assessment models.
  • Experience in contract development and management.
