Food Safety & Quality Officer required for a leading client based in Welwyn Garden City. The Safety & Quality Officer is responsible for providing food safety and quality knowledge and assistance directly to the Group Technical Manager. Previous experience within the food manufacturing industry is mandatory for this opportunity.

Key Skills & Responsibilities:

  • Plan and carry out internal audits to verify food safety systems are operating as required, as well as resolving and non-compliance from internal audits
  • Assist in development and implementation of quality management systems, operating procedures and policies
  • Support continuous improvement of food safety and quality systems to ensure legal compliance standards
  • Ensure the production team carry out GMP checks and maintain due diligence with documentation
  • Conduct weekly reviews of line paperwork to ensure all requisite checks (start-up, hourly, fail-safe, end-of-shift, etc.) are correctly performed and documented for compliance.
  • Review ATP and allergen swab results to ensure adherence to plans. Perform quarterly allergen validation and maintain documentation.
  • Submit monthly water and shelf-life samples, annual nutrition tests, and maintain compliance records; escalate concerns to the Group Technical Manager.
  • Verify supplier compliance with governance and origin claims (e.g., Eggfree), ensuring timely validation confirmations.
  • Ensure accurate completion, submission, and approval of export paperwork, including EHCS, for outgoing shipments.
  • Track, analyse, and trend customer complaints monthly, conducting root cause investigations.
  • Oversee Supplier Management Programme, ensuring supplier checks, chain of custody, manufacturing controls, and onboarding compliance. Maintain updated chain of custody records for raw materials.
  • Build strong supplier relationships and implement a system for prompt communication regarding ingredient or distribution changes.
  • Maintain updated raw material and packaging specifications, ensuring biannual reviews and availability at Goods In.
  • Update risk assessments (raw material, allergen, integrity, segregation) monthly or as needed, saving updated versions on QMS for Goods Intake reference.
  • Guide hygiene team to ensure structured factory cleaning, enhancing food safety, quality, and product integrity, with maintained documentation for due diligence.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain to report quality issues, manage quarantine materials, and handle supplier credits.
  • Work with NPD to complete accurate new line forms and update HACCP, specifications, and customer-facing product information.
  • Support NPD with new product launches, reviewing ingredient specifications, allergen control, and finalizing product specifications.
  • Update HACCP to reflect process or infrastructure changes, organizing annual review meetings with the HACCP team.
