We are seeking a Team Lawyer to join a Local Authority in Wigan, focusing on Children’s social care law. This role involves hybrid working and offers a competitive pay rate. The successful candidate will operate in areas including Local Authority pre-proceedings work, Care proceedings, safeguarding orders, and Adoption. Knowledge of Adult social care and Health law would be advantageous.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Work closely with clients to assist in the delivery of their service objectives and priorities.
  • Provide advice, support, and assistance to client officers, Elected Members, Partner Organisations, and other key stakeholders from across the public and private sectors.
  • Advise, prepare, and conduct proceedings acting as an advocate for the Council at court, tribunals, inquiries, and other statutory and legislative hearings.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Division to provide a high-quality, efficient, and professional legal and democratic service.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in Children’s social care law, including Local Authority pre-proceedings, Care proceedings, safeguarding orders, and Adoption.
  • Knowledge of Adult social care and Health law is advantageous.
  • Strong advocacy skills and experience in representing at court, tribunals, and inquiries.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and supportively within a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with a range of stakeholders.
