Compensation Range:

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

Develops and maintains a hierarchical or relational database that contains data elements necessary to meet the informational needs of the University. Develops and implements standards, including naming conventions for files, records and data elements, for the creation and maintenance of databases and other file structures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Directs and controls all database management activities, as well as flat file structures, including responsibility for security and efficient operation. Maintains responsibility for the definition, organization, and documentation of all databases and flat file structures. Maintains and evaluates database structures through the use of a data dictionary.
  • Establishes and monitors standards and procedures to ensure integration of systems through database design. Establishes naming conventions that reduce redundancy and promotes standardization in programming references to the database.
  • Oversees documentation of all structures and database files. Ensures updates are made as needed.
  • Assumes responsibility for controlling and reducing redundancy of data elements in all files.
  • Authors new databases and files required by application development. Consults with and advises users of the various databases and files.
  • Prepares activity and progress reports concerning the data base management function for review by departmental senior leadership.
  • Defines, installs and maintains adequate database backup and recovery procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree and 4 years of related experience with major hierarchical data base or major rational data base packages, communication and distributed systems required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
