SUMMARY Journeyman - Typically 3 years and above documented field experience in chosen craft discipline with ability to read and interpret instructions and document, plan and perform work activities independently.
Installs machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints and other drawings in establishments.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reads and interprets blueprints, layout plans, vendor installation and operation manuals, and other schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
- Dismantles machines using hammers, wrenches, crowbars and other hand tools.
- Moves machinery and equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers and trucks.
- Assembles and installs equipment, such as shaffing, conveyors and tram rails, using cranes, hand tools and power tools.
- Constructs foundation for machines using hand tools and building materials, such as wood, cement and steel.
- Aligns machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers and plumb bobs.
- Must have knowledge of optical and laser alignments.
- Assembles machines and bolts, welds, rivets or otherwise fastens them to foundation or other structures using hand tools and power tools.
- May operate engine lathe to grind, file and turn machine parts to dimensional specifications.
- May install robot and modify its program using teach pendant.
- May use transit and level for equipment setting.
- Loads, transports and unloads materials, tools, equipment and supplies.
- Performs lubricating maintenance, cleaning activities, or repair of tools, machines, and equipment.
- Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules. Performs other duties as required.

Millwright I assists in the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of industrial machinery and mechanical equipment. This role works under close supervision t in ensuring plant equipment and machinery operate safely and efficiently.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the installation, alignment, and leveling of industrial machinery and mechanical systems.
  • Support in dismantling, moving, and setting up machinery or production equipment.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance such as lubrication, inspection, and replacement of parts.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and rigging equipment safely.
  • Help align motors, couplings, gearboxes, pumps, and other rotating equipment.
  • Assist with basic welding, cutting, and fabrication tasks as directed.
  • Follow detailed instructions, blueprints, schematics, and mechanical drawings.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and properly store tools and equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and company standards.
  • Support senior millwrights and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion or enrollment in an industrial maintenance, millwright, or mechanical training program preferred.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret simple blueprints or diagrams.
  • Understanding of basic math and measurement conversions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in confined spaces or at heights.
  • Willingness to learn and follow direction from experienced millwrights.
