Job Description & Responsibilities
- Structural Assembly: Raises, places, and unites steel girders, columns, and framework components as part of a crew.
- Rigging & Hoisting: Sets up hoisting equipment, fastens steel members using chains or cables, and signals equipment operators.
- Alignment & Positioning: Uses tag lines, crowbars, jacks, and drift pins or spud wrenches to force members into position and align bolt holes. Verifies vertical/horizontal alignment using levels and plumb bobs.
- Welding & Cutting: Cuts and alters steel members using oxyacetylene welding equipment when necessary. [1]

Qualifications
Journeyman Requirements
- Experience: Typically 3 or more years of documented field experience in structural steel/rigging.Â
- Certification: NCCER certified craft credentials required.Â
- Skills: Ability to read and interpret instructions, blueprints, and plan work independently; knowledge of basic rigging, signaling hoisting equipment, and alignment tools (plumb bob, level, spud wrenches).Â
- Physical/General: Must pass pre-employment background checks and physical exams; ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs; compliance with all safety and PPE rules.
