Position Summary

The intern will contribute to key projects within the Clinical Immunology team, focusing on improving consistency and supporting immunological research. This role offers hands-on experience with laboratory techniques and data analysis, as well as exposure to cross-functional collaboration.

The intern will focus on the following projects

Project 1: Compare the parameters and performance of analytical lab instruments (e.g. fluorescent cell counter) between two lab locations to ensure alignment within an acceptable range for downstream analytical T cell assay testing.

Project 2: Perform cytokine testing on supernatant samples collected from T cell assays to support immunological understanding of AAV.

The intern will receive comprehensive training on both cell counting and supernatant testing before executing these projects. At the end of the program, the intern will present findings and recommendations to the Clinical Immunology team.

This work will help standardize processes across sites and provide valuable insights into immune responses, contributing to the advancement of clinical programs.

The intern will report to a Scientist on the Clinical Immunology team. This position is based at the RTP site.

Job Responsibilities

  • Learn about adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene therapy and understand the role of Clinical Immunology in the AAV pipeline.

  • Partner with analysts and scientists in the Clinical Immunology group to gain hands-on experience in immunological assays and data interpretation.

  • Observe and evaluate clinical program results, including immune response data related to AAV therapies.

  • Participate in laboratory activities, including MSD assays, and attend Clinical Immunology team meetings to understand workflows and decision-making processes.

  • Assist with supernatant and cell counter testing

  • Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures and results in compliance under Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP)

  • Communicate effectively with team members regarding project progress and findings.

  • Present summarized findings and observations to the Clinical Immunology team at the conclusion of the internship

Minimum Requirements

  • [Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Molecular Biology, Pre-Health

  • Must be at least a Sophomore in university at the time of your application

  • Flexible and willing to support a variety of tasks for the Clinical Immunology team
