A Civil Engineer Intern with Houston Engineering Inc. (HEI) will spend time in the field working on outdoor construction phase activities as well as a variety of in-office projects assisting engineers. Structural engineering projects range from complex grade separation projects and large bridges spanning a river with architectural enhancements to box culverts for a rural township over a small ditch. 

Job Description

As an intern, responsibilities may include some or all of the following:

  • Assist with plan specifications and estimates as well as documenting construction activities.
  • Assist with AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings and update redlines with various project set drawings.
  • Operate electronic survey instruments such as GPS and Total Station.
  • Perform work in a variety of software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS, etc.
  • Potential observation and data collection at different types of project sites.
  • Assist with research, development and design of projects.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a Civil Engineering degree.
  • Completed coursework in general surveying and AutoCAD are preferred.
  • Able to work extended periods of time in outdoor conditions.
  • Above average math and communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and availability for overnight travel.
