Job Duties:

The University of Wisconsin–Green Bay invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor of Human Biology (Microbiology) to join an interdisciplinary academic unit known for preparing students for impactful careers in the health professions. Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Service responsibilities include advising and mentoring students and contributing to departmental and institutional development.

  • Additional teaching assignments could include introductory and upper-level lecture and laboratory courses (e.g., Medical Microbiology, Medical Mycology, Parasitology, Immunology). in Human Biology.

  • Teaching a course load of 27 credits (~9 courses) per academic year in Microbiology with opportunities to teach other courses in the Human Biology program.

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned Master’s degree (or higher) in Microbiology or related field (e.g., Immunology, Parasitology, Medical Mycology) by the beginning date of appointment is required

  • The successful candidate must have demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, commitment to undergraduate education, and communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with a diverse array of students and colleagues

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least two years of college teaching experience is preferred

  • PhD in Microbiology is preferred

Conditions of Appointment:

The home campus of this position is Green Bay and the successful candidate may occasionally be required to teach a course or work at the Sheboygan or Manitowoc Campus, based on operational needs. 

Position is an academic year, tenure-track appointment.  Applicants must be considered for tenure and promotion in six years, although tenure decisions may be at any time.  Promotion from Assistant to Associate Professor is simultaneous with tenure.  Excellence in teaching, sustained scholarly activity, and institutional service required for retention and promotion.  A pre-employment education check which includes, but is not limited to, the verification of academic credentials will be conducted on the finalist(s).  A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s).  In compliance with the Wisconsin Fair Employment Act, the university does not discriminate on the basis of arrest or conviction record. In addition, if the final selected candidate has prior work history within the last 7 years with Universities of Wisconsin, a personnel file review check for employee misconduct will be completed.

Employee Misconduct
