Position Summary:

The Infection Prevention RN is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of the infection prevention and surveillance program across St. Peter’s Health. This role focuses on identifying infection trends, auditing practices, updating policies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and educating staff, patients, and families. The RN works collaboratively with leadership, clinical teams, and public health agencies to reduce infection risks and enhance patient safety.


Key Responsibilities:

Infection Prevention & Control:

  • Conducts infection surveillance and trend analysis; reports findings to leadership and relevant committees.

  • Develops, reviews, and updates infection control policies and protocols in accordance with CDC, DNV-GL, and other regulatory standards.

  • Educates and provides hands-on coaching to clinical staff on infection prevention best practices.

  • Leads outbreak investigations and recommends corrective and preventative actions.

  • Collaborates with Employee Health to manage occupational exposures and reduce disease transmission.

  • Performs Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRAs) for construction and renovation projects.

  • Maintains infection-related documentation and reports communicable diseases to public health authorities.

  • Participates in regulatory survey preparation, audits, and accreditation activities.

  • Supports performance improvement initiatives to enhance infection prevention outcomes

Qualifications:

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Understanding of hospital epidemiology and clinical/environmental microbiology as it relates to infection prevention.

  • Familiarity with sterilization, disinfection, and sanitation practices in healthcare settings.

  • Knowledge of therapeutic and diagnostic procedures and equipment relevant to infection control.

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or a degree in epidemiology or microbiology required.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred; required within one year of hire.
