Senior Accountant JOB SUMMARY:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial records and ensuring that financial transactions are properly recorded. Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to general ledger accounts, and documenting business transactions in accordance with GAAP and departmental operating policies.

Senior Accountant ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (RESPONSIBILITIES):
* Prepares or reviews timely and accurate journal entries according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or other regulatory requirements.
* Ensures the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconciles or reviews reconciliations of subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger.
* Monitors progress towards completion of all month-end reconciliations and month-end close tasks.
* Collaboratively works with other departments.
* Prepares accounting estimates and schedules for federal and state income taxes, including monthly tax provision calculations and quarterly adjustments between current tax liabilities and deferred tax accounts.
* Identifies and understands variances generated in the monthly close process, taking action as needed, to correct errors or to inform management of findings.
* Assists in the preparation of quarterly and annual statements by assembling data as well as collaborates in the regulatory reporting process, preparing and reviewing reports and schedules when needed. This includes, but is not limited to, the Call Report, tax filings and FR-Y reporting.
* Establishes, maintains, and coordinates the implementation of accounting and internal control procedures.
* Assists with providing accurate information and responding timely to inquiries from the Company's Internal Auditors, External Auditors, and Tax Preparer (external CPA firm).
* Creates ad hoc financial analysis and reports to senior management to support and recommends business decisions.
* Exercises awareness with regard to possible suspicious activity, money laundering or fraudulent behavior and reports any such incidents to the BSA department. Performs all job functions in compliance with all company policies and federal, state, and local laws and regulations as applicable to the position, including, but not limited to BSA/AML, OFAC and GLBA/privacy rules.
* Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.

* Advanced knowledge of accounting policies, procedures, and practices.

* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Equivalent Education/Experience
* Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or a related area.
* 5 years' experience in accounting, banking, or other financial service.
* Experience in banking or mortgage industry preferred.
* FIS Horizon general ledger experience preferred but not required.
