KBR is seeking a Senior Spacecraft Mechanical Technician to support the Dragonfly mission for KBR's Science and Space business area. The Dragonfly Lander is a car-sized, nuclear-powered octocopter that will study Titan and collect scientific findings that could change our understanding of life in the universe.

The work will be performed at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, MD.

Ability to obtain TS clearance

The Senior Spacecraft Mechanical Technician will be responsible for:

  • Performing hands-on hardware assembly and conducting various testing functions and handling operations involving high value aerospace hardware
  • Interfacing with designers, engineers, and other technical support staff in order to solve complex problems
  • Operating fork lifts, overhead cranes, personnel lifts, and work in clean room assembly areas
  • Reading and interpreting drawings, procedures and following quality control guidelines and inspection procedures
  • Setting up fixtures, tooling and other systems to prepare for tests, measurements, deployments, handling operations, etc.
  • Being part of the launch site operations team, assisting handling and mate operations with the launch vehicle
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Have 8+ years of experience handling sensitive spacecraft equipment including spacecraft propulsion systems, thermal systems, or structural assemblies
  • Associates Degree
  • Are skilled in use of hand tools and shop equipment
  • Are willing and able to travel to launch sites and other testing facilities as needed, work in cleanrooms, and can lift 50 lb.
  • Can communicate differing opinions in a collaborative environment without conflict among other team members
  • Are able to obtain a Top-Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship

Basic Compensation:

$40.00 - $63.00 / Hour

This is for the Maryland area only.

The offered rate will be based on contract affordability and the selected candidate's working location, knowledge, skills, and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
