Job Duties:

Job Summary:

The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) at Bucknell University invites applications for two full-time, in-person, one-year Visiting Assistant Professor positions beginning in the fall of 2026. One position is primarily computer engineering focused and the other is primarily electrical engineering focused. We seek enthusiastic educators who desire a student-centered environment and that value the intersection of a premier engineering education and a liberal arts context.

Our department is characterized by small class sizes, close faculty-student interaction, hands-on experiences and a curriculum that focuses on engineering design. We are a collegial group of 11 faculty / staff members excited to mentor new colleagues and provide a supportive atmosphere for professional growth. These positions are ideal for candidates who are passionate about undergraduate education and wish to gain experience in teaching and learning.

Job Duties:

Teaching & Curriculum: Teach ECE courses to ECE students and possibly non-majors

  • Each position will carry a six-course load for the year (where lectures are 1 credit and labs are half a credit). The specific course load will be negotiated with the chair such that it complements the existing faculty experience and student interest.

  • Courses will likely include sophomore, junior, and senior year courses in ECE. There may be an opportunity to teach an advanced elective in an area that connects with student interest.

  • Most courses within the curriculum include a lab.

  • Prior course materials will be available for use and adaptation, if needed.

Professional Development & Service: Visiting faculty at Bucknell have access to the same resources as permanent faculty including:

  • Service opportunities: If interested, visiting faculty can engage in and learn about assessment, student advising, curriculum maintenance, and other administrative aspects of the department.

  • Research Opportunities: While teaching is the primary focus, candidates are encouraged to continue their technical research or engage in Engineering Education Research (EER) using the university’s extensive resources.

  • Professional development: Access the teaching and learning resources on campus including the Teaching and Learning Center which offers relevant programming and support for developing educators.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering Education with an ECE background, or a closely related field by the start of employment.

  • Applicants with relevant certifications or experience in teaching and learning are encouraged to apply.

Application requires:

  • A cover letter clearly articulating your interest in joining the Bucknell University ECE department and how your experiences, knowledge, and/or past accomplishments make you an excellent candidate.

  • Curriculum vitae (CV).

  • Instead of submitting a typical Teaching Statement, please write a story about a positive or negative teaching or learning experience that significantly impacted you. Explain why it was impactful, why you chose this particular experience, and how it formed your thoughts on teaching and learning. (max 3 pages)

  • Candidates selected to progress in the interview process will be requested to provide contact information for three confidential references.

For full consideration, applications should be received by March 1. Questions about the position, the department, or Bucknell should be directed to Rich Kozick (kozick@bucknell.edu).

Benefits:

Eligible full- and part-time employees are compensated beyond base salary through our total rewards package that includes (but is not limited to):
