Job Description Summary
The NYC School Construction Authority is looking for a Director of MEP Standards to join the Design and Construction Innovation Management Department (DCIM) to guide the design of low carbon new and existing schools. NYC has a mandate to design all new schools as electric buildings, and to convert 100 existing schools to be all-electric fossil fuel free buildings by 2030. As technology is rapidly changing, research and managing an integrated team of senior HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical designers is needed to develop standards based on new technologies, stay abreast of legislation, keep up with and push the market, update the standards, support Construction Management and support the review of designs to ensure the designs are successfully implemented.Job Description
Responsibilities include:
Accountable to deliver core services within a division, through the management of people and/or processes and/or projects.
Develops and makes recommendations concerning policies and procedures affecting the operational and administrative matters of the Authority.
Ensures the daily operations and the resolution of special managerial, operational, and administrative problems pertaining to policy and practice.
Serves as a principal liaison between the various Authority Departments and Divisions, Department of Education, government agencies and outside contractors and consultants in a wide range of operational and administrative areas.
Serves as a member of the Departments Operations Committee, developing strategies, policies and procedures for their Department.Â
Translates organization strategy into plans, programs, and objectives for their team(s).
May develop and implement necessary procedures to bring various departments into a project-based team, working to achieve common goals.
Oversees the preparation of reports on operational and administrative matters for use in the formulation of policy
Develops and recommends to Senior Management Authority-wide policies and procedures affecting all aspects of Authority operations.
Plans, assigns, directs, monitors, reviews, and evaluates work performed by assigned staff.
Makes recommendations regarding recruitment, hiring, promotion, reassignment, and discipline.
Performs related duties, as assigned.
Division Specific Tasks:
Manages staff within the Technical Standards and Support unit of the Design Construction Innovation Management (DCIM) department.
Directs and manages the development of the Mechanical Standards.
Directs research and development of new technologies and potential building standards related to MEP systems. Â
Ensures that projects meet Department of Education requirements and capital plan time-frames.
Reports on group activities, including project status, staff utilization, implementation of Authority design standards and quality control.
Develops and improves technical and design standards and specifications, including assisting in evaluating new systems and materials.
Plans, assigns, directs, monitors, reviews and evaluates work performed by unit staff.
Makes recommendations regarding recruitment, hiring, promotion, reassignment and discipline.
Performs related duties, as assigned.
Requirements:
NYS Registered Architect or NYS Professional Engineer License
Education: Baccalaureate
