Position Summary

The Field Superintendent owns the execution of assigned industrial mechanical projects, splitting time evenly between the jobsite and the office. This is a self-directed role: the Field Superintendent is expected to plan the work, coordinate crews and materials, manage the customer relationship, and resolve day-to-day issues independently, bringing forward decisions and outcomes rather than routine updates. The Field Superintendent is not expected to perform hands-on trade work; the role is one of ownership, coordination, and judgment across the projects assigned to them.

This is a fast-track role: candidates who demonstrate strong ownership and sound judgment should expect to move into a full Project Manager position within approximately 1–3 months.

Key Responsibilities

Project Ownership & Field Leadership

• Take full ownership of assigned projects from kickoff through completion, planning and directing the work with minimal oversight.

• Oversee foremen and field crews across active jobsites, ensuring work aligns with the schedule and plan.

• Conduct regular jobsite visits to monitor progress, quality, and safety, and resolve issues on the spot before they affect schedule or budget.

• Coordinate manpower, equipment, and material needs across projects, making the call on trade-offs and priorities.

• Direct foremen with resources and decisions rather than performing hands-on trade work directly.

Planning & Office Work

• Split time between the field and the office to build daily and weekly work plans, manpower plans, and sequencing.

• Own tracking of project progress against schedule and budget, and act on variances directly.

• Manage procurement for assigned projects – sourcing quotes, selecting vendors, and confirming deliveries align with field schedules.

• Draft change order documentation for out-of-scope work identified in the field.

Customer Ownership

• Serve as the primary point of contact for customers on assigned projects.

• Run project meetings and provide customers with schedule updates, progress reports, and status directly.

• Build and maintain the customer relationship through responsive, professional communication.

Safety & Quality

• Promote and enforce a strong culture of safety on every jobsite.

• Ensure work performed complies with OSHA regulations, customer safety requirements, and company policy.

• Verify completed work meets project specifications and quality standards before turnover.

• Own incident reporting and follow-up corrective actions for assigned projects.

Growth Path

• This role is designed to prepare high performers for a Project Manager position – typically within 1–3 months – by giving them real ownership of budgeting, procurement, and customer management from day one.

• Check in periodically with the Director of Construction Services on overall performance and readiness for advancement, rather than day-to-day project decisions.

Participate in project closeout and lessons-learned meetings to sharpen project management judgment. 

Requirements

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Minimum 2–4 years of experience in a field leadership role (e.g., Foreman, Lead) on industrial mechanical, construction, maintenance, outage, or shutdown projects.

• Working knowledge of industrial mechanical systems, piping, rigging, welding, and equipment installation.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.

• Demonstrated ability to work independently, make sound decisions under pressure, and take ownership of outcomes.

• Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.

• Comfortable working in both a jobsite and an office setting, and shifting between the two regularly.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams).

• Valid Driver’s License.

• Willingness to travel to customer sites as needed.
