The Shift Lead is responsible for coordinating daily warehouse and machine shop operations to ensure
safety, quality, productivity, and on-time completion of work. This role provides hands-on leadership and
support to warehouse and production employees, oversees workflow throughout the shift, ensures
compliance with company policies and safety standards, and assists with inventory accuracy, equipment
operation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Functions
- Lead and support daily warehouse and machine shop operations to ensure production and
shipping goals are met. - Coordinate shift activities and assign work priorities to maximize efficiency and productivity.
- Ensure all customer orders are picked, processed, and completed accurately and on schedule.
- Monitor production activities and equipment operation to ensure products meet quality and
specification requirements. - Assist with machine setup, operation, troubleshooting, and workflow as needed to support
production demands. - Perform and oversee all aspects of the Monostand area and related production processes.
- Ensure inventory is stored in the correct locations and maintain warehouse organization.
- Execute and/or oversee cycle counts to ensure inventory accuracy within the ERP system.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies, picking errors, and production issues, implementing
corrective actions to prevent recurrence. - Post and verify orders in Navision and ensure all required documentation is completed
accurately. - Ensure mill certificates and supporting documentation are included with customer shipments.
- Conduct routine inspections of finished products to verify quality standards are achieved.
- Ensure forklifts and material handling equipment receive required daily inspections and
maintenance checks. - Oversee and promote safe operation of production and warehouse equipment.
- Conduct safety observations and reinforce compliance with company safety policies and
procedures. - Immediately respond to and communicate any safety concerns, incidents, or operational
issues to management. - Maintain housekeeping standards throughout the warehouse and production areas.
- Train, mentor, and provide day-to-day guidance to team members on processes, safety
requirements, and standard work practices. - Follow, lead, demonstrate, and enforce safety and quality principles at all times.
- Support continuous improvement efforts to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and increase
operational performance. - Collaborate with management and other departments to ensure smooth shift operations and
effective communication. - Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 2-year minimum experience in similar role.
- Experience in production scheduling, quality assurance and personnel.
- Familiar with metal fabrication practices and procedures.
- Familiar with warehouse storage and organization.
- Experience with order planning from pick ticket to shipping.
Travel Requirements
- Travel may be required on occasion, <10%.
Physical Demands
- Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, laptop use, etc.
Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs.
