Applications Engineer – Princeton, ILĀ

What You Will Do:Ā Ā 

  • Reviews all new jobs prior to being set up, including prints, programs, material, tooling, fixtures, collets and holders to ensure no interruptions at set upĀ 

  • Studies parts, blueprints, drawings and engineering information to determine methods andĀ  sequence of CNC machining operationsĀ 

  • Performs in-process inspections to assure products will meet requirements using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gagesĀ 

  • Determines reference points, machine cutting paths, computes angular and linear dimensions, radii and curvaturesĀ 

  • Determines proper tooling and fixturing requirements of machining operations, including tooling speed and feed rates. Monitors and adjusts feeds and speeds as necessaryĀ 

  • Observes and simulates CNC trial runs to eliminate program errors and eliminate machine crashesĀ 

  • Compares program code to original part specifications to verify accuracyĀ 

  • Modifies existing programs to enhance production efficiencyĀ 

  • Verifies parts meet drawing specificationsĀ 

  • Inspects own work and machined parts to detect and correct errorsĀ 

  • Performs proper set up procedures as neededĀ 

  • Submits status reports to management on progress of assigned projectsĀ 

  • Performs program troubleshooting, problem identification and resolutionĀ 

  • Monitors tool life and tool ware to detect potential problems; develops and implements solutionsĀ 

  • Develops, documents and delivers training to operators, Team Leaders, maintenance and othersĀ 

  • Maintains CNC back-up programsĀ 

  • Provides support to maintenance, operators and quality in problem resolution; responds to on-call inquiries from off-shift team as scheduledĀ Ā 

  • Lead and implement Lean Manufacturing tools & techniques (workshops, Kanban, visual management,5S, total productive maintenance, set-up reduction, etc.)Ā 

  • Use formal problem-solving techniques to identify and resolve complex problems.Ā 

  • Initiate and manage productivity and cost savings projects.Ā 

  • Implement and maintain process controls through advanced quality planning techniques (FMEA, key characteristics management, mistake proofing, etc.).Ā 

  • Research, evaluate, justify, and recommend capital equipment for operations.Ā 

  • Prepare capital expenditure requisitions and manage the implementation of capital equipment projects.Ā 

  • Stay current with state-of-the art technologies and equipment.Ā 

  • Participate in developing strategic manufacturing processes. Also assist in developing the short and long-range capital planning.Ā 

  • Prepare and coordinate the implementation schedule for major projects and process changes.Ā 

  • Develop and maintain all process documentation (ie. routings, standard work, work instructions, setup sheets, etc.) to ensure accuracy.Ā 

  • Analyze proposed engineering changes for manufacturing impact and feasibility.Ā 

  • Participate in developing and maintaining ISO 9001 procedures and documents for the Process engineering department as required.Ā 

  • Assist Purchasing and Quality Assurance in qualifying suppliers for new product or product changesĀ 

  • Attend training opportunities deemed necessary by management.Ā 

  • Perform other duties as requiredĀ

What You Need to Succeed:Ā Ā 

  • 4 Year Degree in Engineering or related field (Mechanical, Industrial, Process is preferred)Ā 

  • 5+ years’ experience in setting up, programming and operating Fanuc controlled CNC machining centers in a precision manufacturing environmentĀ 

  • Experience with Fanuc Controls, G and M code to develop programs for Mori-Seiki, Haas, OKK, DN Solutions, and Takamaz equipment or similar equipmentĀ 

  • Experience withoperating all forms of inspection equipmentĀ 

  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM software and it’s applicationĀ 

  • Ability to read, interpret and utilize blue printsĀ Ā 

  • Basic math skills to include four functions, fractions and decimals, as well as ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and trigonometryĀ 

  • Ability to work both independently and with teamsĀ

Compensation: This range is provided by Allegion. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.Ā Ā 

  • The expected Base Salary Range: $75,000 - $110,000.Ā  The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
