Cost Accountant

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Cost Accountant to join our manufacturing team. This role is responsible for analyzing manufacturing costs, supporting inventory valuation, preparing cost forecasts, and ensuring accurate reporting of cost-related financial information. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in manufacturing accounting, with a deep understanding of standard costing, variance analysis, and financial reporting in a production environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Cost Analysis & Reporting: Collect, analyze, and report on production, labor, and overhead costs; prepare standard cost reports and profitability analyses.
• Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist with budget development and monitor actual spending against budgets, identifying variances.
• Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels and costs, ensuring accuracy in valuation.
• Operational Efficiency: Identify inefficiencies, track expenses, and recommend cost-saving measures to management.
• System Maintenance: Help maintain and update cost accounting system.
• General Ledger & Entries: Prepare and post journal entries, maintain ledgers, and ensure data accuracy.
• Account Reconciliation: Reconcile balance sheets and other accounts monthly.
• Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing financial statements (P&L, Cash Flow, Balance Sheet) and variance analysis.
• Month/Year-End Close: Support the closing process, including accruals and account maintenance.
• Audits & Compliance: Help with internal and external audits and ensure adherence to internal controls and GAAP.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with other departments (e.g., operations, purchasing) to gather data and implement financial controls. 
• Special Projects: Handle ad-hoc reporting and analysis for senior management. 
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
• Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
• Proficient in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
• Experience with inventory management, BOM analysis, and variance reporting.
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate complex financial data in a clear and concise manner.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

• Primarily office-based with routine visits to the manufacturing floor.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
