Job Description

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide technical oversight for all paint department operations, ensuring adherence to process parameters and quality standards.

  • Support day-to-day paint line performance by analyzing data, identifying root causes of process issues, and implementing corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to ensure proper function, calibration, and preventive maintenance of paint equipment.

  • Assist in troubleshooting and process optimization of automated paint systems, robots, and related equipment.

  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to paint quality, uptime, and efficiency; drive improvement initiatives as needed.

  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards including ISO 14001 and IATF 16949.

  • Participate in continuous improvement activities, including lean manufacturing initiatives, Kaizen events, and error-proofing projects.

  • Maintain documentation for paint processes, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.

  • Support new product launches, engineering changes, and paint trials by providing technical expertise.

  • Coordinate with quality and production teams to address paint defects, surface quality issues, and customer complaints.

  • Stay current with paint technologies, automation advancements, and material innovations to enhance process performance.

Technical Knowledge & Skills

  • Working knowledge of paint department processes and principles, including modern coating technologies.

  • Strong understanding of machining, tooling, electrical schematics, pneumatics, and hydraulics.

  • Basic proficiency in PLC programming (Modicon experience preferred).

  • Experience with Fanuc paint robots highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of paint system controls, application equipment, curing ovens, and filtration systems.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint).

  • Understanding of statistical process control (SPC) and data-driven problem-solving.

  • Blueprint reading and interpretation skills.

  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and organizational skills.

  • Effective written and verbal communication abilities.

Qualifications

  • Secondary or college education in Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in automotive or high-volume manufacturing environment.

  • Prior experience in a paint shop or automated finishing system strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

     

  • Work performed primarily in a paint shop and production floor environment.

  • Exposure to paint fumes, chemicals, and manufacturing noise; appropriate PPE required.

  • Must be able to stand, walk, and move about for extended periods of time.

  • Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.
