Job Description

The General MotorsĀ Global Purchasing and Supply Chain (GPSC)Ā organization isĀ seekingĀ toĀ identifyĀ highly motivated and qualified individuals for current or futureĀ Senior Buyer rolesĀ 

Selected candidates will be invited to join one of the following areas within the GPSC organization:Ā 

  • Chassis Propulsion StructuresĀ 

  • Interior/ Exterior/ ThermalĀ 

  • Battery, Fuel Cells, & Critical MaterialĀ 

  • Electrical systems,Ā SoftwareĀ and connectivityĀ 

  • Indirect PurchasingĀ or OtherĀ

TheĀ ideal candidateĀ will be comfortable operating autonomously, solving problems independently, and prioritizing tasks that maximize enterprise value for General Motors and the Global Purchasing and Supply Chain (GPSC) function.Ā 

  • Responsible forĀ purchasingĀ all or specific portions of productive and/or non-productive materials, supplies, machinery, tooling, and services.Ā 

  • ActivelyĀ participateĀ in the development of commodity strategiesĀ 

  • Lead complex global sourcing and negotiations with key supplier partnersĀ 

  • Execute global/regional material budgetsĀ 

  • Collaborate closely with suppliers and internal stakeholdersĀ 

  • Maintaining sourcing pipeline, benchmarking data, strategy presentations, global direct material budget, and on-time metricsĀ 

  • Adhere to corporate and departmental purchasing and accounting practices and proceduresĀ 

  • Sourcing and contracting activities that include, but are not limited to:Ā 

  • Sourcing strategy, bid list development & managementĀ 

  • Quote analysis and reviewĀ 

  • Coordination and alignment of RFQ package components, including Terms & Conditions, SOR compliance, technicalĀ documentationĀ and quality alignmentĀ 

  • Lead sourcing recommendation and alignment with cross-functional teamsĀ 

  • Management of sourcing documentation related to RFQ process in adherence to the GM Audit Services requirementsĀ 

  • Lead supplier relationship management initiatives, including ā€œStrategic Supplier Engagementā€ and nurture relationship with suppliers by acting as a focal point for commercial issue resolutionĀ 

  • Lead or represent the purchasing function in supplier KPI reviewsĀ 

  • Represent purchasing and support mitigation of supply chain disruptions.Ā 

  • Conduct in-depth contract analysis and perform rate management activities including contract amendments, issuing spot buys, rateĀ analysisĀ and supplier requests.Ā 

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives andĀ identifyĀ savings opportunities,Ā advanceĀ automationĀ and introduce innovative solutions.Ā Ā Ā 

  • Support or leadĀ additionalĀ requiredĀ projects asĀ assigned by management.Ā 

  • Promote GM'sĀ behaviorsĀ values andĀ makesĀ customer-focused decisions.Ā

Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)Ā 

  • 5+ years relevant work experience in purchasing, supply chain, program/product management, logistics or product development (any internship or co-op experience will not be considered)

  • Data JudgementĀ -Ā Competency using automated tools, ability to objectively analyze data and draw meaningful conclusionsĀ 

  • Informative CommunicationĀ - Ability to communicate relevant information to theĀ appropriate audienceĀ both effectively andĀ timelyĀ 

  • Relationship ManagementĀ - Develops andĀ maintainsĀ constructive, cooperative working relationshipsĀ

  • SAP experienceĀ or ability to learn purchasing systemsĀ 

  • Ability to travel 10% of the time domestically + InternationallyĀ

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)Ā 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business,Ā Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, Finance, related fieldĀ 

  • Experience with commoditiesĀ 

  • Cost analysis or manufacturing experienceĀ 

  • Automotive industry experienceĀ 

  • Knowledge of Capacity and Materials ManagementĀ 

  • Capable of drawing conclusions from complex data, marketĀ trendsĀ and the regulatory environmentĀ 

  • Ability to understand basic engineering documents and technical drivers for the applicable commoditiesĀ 

  • Knowledge of contract law as it applies to the purchasing processesĀ
