Job Description – Senior Electrical Engineer (SFA/ETO – Chillers)
Job Summary
The Sr. Electrical Engineer is a key member of the SFA/ETO team within the Thermal Management Engineering & R&D Department. The role is responsible for the full lifecycle of electrical systems for data center chillers, from initial quotation and feasibility assessment to detailed design, development, and implementation. The engineer collaborates closely with internal SFA/ETO team members, including thermodynamic and mechanical engineers, as well as Application Engineers, to ensure delivery of high-reliability, customized units that meet customer specifications. Key responsibilities include preparing technical and cost proposals, performing electrical design calculations, selecting components, ensuring compliance with standards and customer requirements, and supporting testing and commissioning activities. The role is central to delivering engineered-to-order solutions with a high level of performance and reliability.
This position will be based onsite at our Westerville, OH - Polaris location.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the electrical design for SFA/ETO chillers, ensuring compliance with performance, cost, and schedule objectives.
- Work within the SFA/ETO team, collaborating with thermodynamic and mechanical engineers of the team, as well as with application engineers, to develop electrical solutions for customer-specific requests.
- Ensure electrical designs comply with relevant standards (IEC, UL, IEEE) and internal corporate requirements.
- Perform system-level electrical simulations and analyses, and validate designs for high-reliability, mission-critical applications.
- Develop and document electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and Bills of Materials using ECAD tools (e.g. Creo Schematic).
- Coordinate with procurement, manufacturing, and external suppliers on electrical component selection and integration.
- Support process improvement initiatives and harmonization of electrical design standards within the team.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on electrical best practices within the SFA team.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing special project development with production line support.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or directly related degree.
- 10+ years of experience in electrical system design, preferably for data center or other high-reliability systems (e.g., industrial power, aerospace).
- Strong understanding of power electronics, electrical distribution, and system-level design principles.
- Proficient in ECAD tools (Creo Schematic) and PLM systems (e.g., Oracle PD Cloud).
- Familiarity with standards and regulations (IEC, UL, IEEE) relevant to electrical system design.
- Experience with full product lifecycle management, Lean/Six Sigma concepts, and DFx methodologies preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving, strategic thinking, and project management skills.
- Self-motivated, results-oriented, and capable of working independently.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; effective collaboration within the SFA team and with other departments.
- Willingness to travel if needed.
- Residence in or willing to relocate to the Columbus, OH area.
