A well run and dynamic CNC operation alongside a thriving reclaimed furniture business is seeking a CNC Machinist/Programmer. Their talented team crafts bespoke pieces for their clients, including furniture, signage, and artworks, using materials such as reclaimed timber, manufactured board, and foam. Their furniture is available on their website, and they offer custom CNC work through their dedicated CNC site.

Job Overview:

They are seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and skilled CNC Machinist/Programmer. In this role, you will operate our 3-axis CNC machine, manage CAD/CAM tasks, and contribute to overall team productivity. Responsibilities include running programs, editing G-Code, and creating CAD models to meet customer specifications. Effective team communication, task delegation, and inventory management are also key aspects. Candidates with at least 2 years of CNC experience and proficiency in relevant software and materials are encouraged to apply.

This is a full-time permanent position.

Duties:

  • Operate a 3-axis CNC machine:

Run programs

Edit G-Code if needed

Change tools and set machine datum and offsets

Conduct basic fault finding and machining adjustments based on accurate measurements

Utilize hold downs and create custom ones if required

Maintain machine/workplace cleanliness and adjust settings for feeds, speeds, and chiploads

  • CAD/CAM:

Create 2D and 3D models in CAD software

Generate G-Code from CAD models

Interpret customer specifications and technical drawings for CAD file creation

Estimate material requirements and machining times based on CAD files

  • Other Responsibilities:

Communicate effectively with diverse team members

Delegate post-process tasks like sanding and oiling

Manage stock of parts and materials, coordinating with the admin team for orders

Continuously improve productivity and work methods

Assist in other tasks such as oiling, sanding, and packing when CNC work is low

Ensure adherence to quality and safety practices, maintaining tidy work areas

Integrate and collaborate effectively within the team

Requirements:

  • Software:

Autodesk Fusion360 (or similar parametric modeling software, with capacity to self-learn)

Vectric Vcarve

Google Sheets or equivalent

Syntec/Fanuc G-Code

Syntec controls (or ability to self-learn)

  • Material Experience (preferred):
    • Solid hardwood, softwood, reclaimed wood, MDF, plywood (all types), chipboard, melamine, Formica faced sheets, acrylic, HDPE, aluminum, foam

Candidate Skills:

Strong problem-solving abilities

Self-driven with a focus on meeting deadlines and targets

Maintain composure and clarity under pressure

Fast and efficient worker with a forward-thinking mindset

Good understanding of industrial CNC operations

Essential Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years' experience in programming and operating CNC Machining Centres

Minimum 1 year's experience in CAD

Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings and using precision measurement equipment (Micrometers, Verniers, etc.)

Experience with vacuum hold down systems

Ability to program, set up, maintain, and operate CNC machines independently

Ability to check cutting tools, materials, and end-results to ensure they meet requirements

Understanding of tolerances and quality requirements

Knowledge of health and safety protocols in CNC operations

Job Type:

  • Full-time
  • Pay: £32,000.00 - £39,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8-hour shift (Monday to Friday)
