We have a unique opportunity for an experienced Acquisitions Editor to join the library publishing division of a successful international educational publisher, working on a fabulous portfolio of digital collections of historical primary sources. This highly interesting and varied acquisitions role will involve responsibility for product research, business case development, partner negotiation as well as publication of the collections. This role can be worked on a fully remote basis within the UK.

The focus of this role will include overseeing the creation of digital archive modules and formulating and developing digital archives series for the library publishing division. This will involve researching new product collections, market research, negotiating partnerships, the production and publication of digital collections of historical primary sources, as well as liaising with the Marketing and Sales teams.

Some of the key responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Researching new product opportunities by working with potential institutional partners and content collections (e.g. historical books, manuscripts, serials, and newspaper publications).
  • Business Case Research and Product Approval
  • Submitting pre-contract proposals to potential partners and drafting partner agreements for content acquisition, and negotiating final terms
  • Coordinate the product creation and digital conversion of all content for publication, including analysing metadata, assessing, and overseeing permissions and copyright clearance
  • Acting as the key provider of product information to other departments on products and product series

This a fantastic role for an experienced Content Acquisition Editor, with a strong sense of curiosity and openness to learning about topics in a variety of academic areas, ideally with an interest in history. You will have experience in content acquisitions and the ability to fully own the product and series development life cycle of your products from inception to final publication. Strong attention to detail, along with analytical and problem-solving abilities are essential to this role as are excellent communication and organisational skills. You will be a strong team player, with the ability to work collaboratively as you will be working with colleagues throughout the organisation. An understanding of copyright is desirable as are a strong interest in history and the humanities.
