Outage Planner - Power Generation
45,000 - 55,000 + Benefits

This is a full-time opportunity for an experienced Outage Planner to join a large-scale Energy from Waste (EfW) facility in Kent. The role focuses on the strategic planning and coordination of both preventative and reactive maintenance outages across all process lines, the turbine/generator and common plant systems.

You'll play a critical role in maximising plant availability, throughput, and SHEQ performance, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver efficient, compliant, and cost-effective outage execution.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate scheduled outages across 3 processing lines, the steam turbine/generator and shared systems.
  • Develop workflow and documentation and project plans to drive effective outage execution.
  • Optimise resource utilisation across departments to reduce plant downtime and improve asset performance.
  • Lead the development and optimisation of the CMMS system to enhance planning, tracking, and reporting.
  • Engage with maintenance, engineering, and procurement teams to ensure materials and services are in place prior to works starting.
  • Oversee permit-to-work systems and support safe system isolations during outage periods.
  • Drive continuous improvement of site safety culture making safety a first thought, not an afterthought.
  • Support financial planning by preparing and submitting funding applications in line with project timelines.
  • Ensure that subcontractors and visitors are fully inducted and compliant with site safety procedures.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards across work zones during all phases of outage execution.
  • Actively participate in team development, support knowledge sharing, and foster a positive team environment.

Requirements

  • Engineering or technical background, ideally with a qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering.
  • Previous experience in outage or maintenance planning in a power generation, energy from waste, or heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of CMMS systems and maintenance planning best practices.
  • Good understanding of safe systems of work, permit processes, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and organisational skills.
  • IT-literate with working knowledge of MS Office, planning tools (e.g., MS Project), and maintenance software.
  • A proactive mindset with a focus on safety, reliability, and team collaboration.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
