About The Company:

They are a specialist commercial, construction, fit out and refurbishment contractor operating throughout Southern England, with a wealth of experience in highly regulated industries.

Due to significant growth, an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing construction specialist that delivers complex construction projects, typically in highly regulated industries. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this role will be the focal point for all contract and commercial matters and will lead a team of dynamic Quantity Surveyors and provide advice to all project delivery stakeholders.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Managing all the contractual variations and events management processes, working closely with the Quantity Surveyor(s) ensuring that all information and communication with the client is aligned with the contractual expectations
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement commercial strategies and procedures in line with company objectives.
  • Contract Management: Oversee contract negotiations, ensuring that contracts are in the best interests
  • Risk Management: Identify commercial risks and proactively mitigate them.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Change Management : Identify contact change and proactively mitigate them.
  • Financial Oversight: Manage budgets, ensure cost efficiency, and drive profitability.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor, guide, and supervise the commercial team to achieve departmental goals.
  • Ensuring all Principal Accountabilities for the contract commercial team are implemented in accordance with commercial procedures.
  • Managing a key scope of work in the commercial management of contracts and claims across a suite of NEC, JCT and/or FIDIC based contracts.
  • Overseeing contract commercial relationships.
  • Providing commercial management of contracts during the execution phase (post award) to maximise operational and financial performance and minimise commercial risk.
  • Providing commercial management for the delivery of contract final account agreements (closeout). Provide commercial support to the Project Directors in the effective delivery of the contract and ensure formal completion and closure of all the Project Contracts, identification and recording of commercial lessons Learnt.
  • Look for opportunities to grow a business, whether through partnerships or new initiatives, and works to take advantage of those opportunities
  • Lead on commercial support for all tenders and support bid writing were necessary.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Experience of commercial management of construction projects over £5m in value.
  • Capability of managing a team recognising strengths and improvement opportunities.
  • Strong contractual knowledge (must have intricate knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts. Knowledge of FIDIC would also be desirable).
  • Degree level qualification in relevant field.
  • High understanding of construction processes.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Exemplary communication skills.
  • Excellent IT skills and knowledge of relevant software
  • Detailed knowledge of past and current building and construction technology, processes, materials, business and legal matters.
  • Client liaising.
  • Ability to manage a team.
