My client is seeking a Commercial Officer to join their team, providing proactive commercial support in business strategy, customer liaison, and the successful acquisition and delivery of contracts. This role is ideal for someone with a strong commercial background, excellent negotiation skills, and a keen eye for detail.

Day to Day of the Role:

  • Support Business Development in commercial proposal development and business-winning activities.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and commercial proposals for various customers.
  • Ensure compliance with business and governance procedures during costing, bidding, and contract processing.
  • Negotiate and finalise bids and contracts, with support from the Commercial Manager and Head of Commercial.
  • Manage customer purchase orders and contracts, ensuring all documentation is approved in line with delegated authorities.
  • Draft and negotiate commercial agreements and ensure compliance with export control requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve bid and project-related issues.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Manage workload within an assigned portfolio, prioritising tasks effectively.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the business.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Degree level education or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline.
  • Proven experience in a commercial role, preferably within similar industries.
  • Resilience and the ability to handle high-intensity work periods, especially during bid activities.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to look beyond immediate tasks.
  • Familiarity with contracting environments (e.g., UK MoD, US DoD) and export control regulations, or willingness to learn.
  • Excellent numeracy and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and experience with ERP platforms (Syteline preferred).
  • Organised, detail-oriented, and capable of multitasking to meet tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility to support the wider Commercial Team as needed.
  • Eligibility to obtain UK SC and/or Known Consignor clearance if required.
