This business operates in the manufacturing and supply of precision components. They manufacture and supply components used in industrial environments.

The business is a family owned business headquartered in Canada with a number of internationally based manufacturing and sales/service centres. Two of which are based in the UK. This specific site (which is non-unionised) has been undergoing significant growth seeing a trebling in revenues over the last few years and now requires an individual who is able to ensure this success and the future success of the site remains sustainable in the areas of fulfilment, quality and operating margin.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The manufacturing site based in the West Midlands is looking to appoint an Operations Manager who has a background in project led production and manufacturing. The individual is likely to be degree educated in an engineering discipline and possess typical foundation experience on the shop floor within a high precision operating environment. In addition this individual will have gained experience of offsite / modern methods of construction in a commercial building context - HVAC, Fluids, Pumps would offer a sound basis of experience.

The role will require the individual to be fully conversant with manufacturing methods like 5S, Lean and similar and be pro-active in their managerial style and be the site representative for Health & Safety. Procurement of materials to support production by maintaining part availability at point of fit, management of inventory to meet operational demand and on time delivery within working capital targets. These role elements will also require working with and providing support to the global supply chain team to ensure the correct balance of local and global sourcing capabilities are employed to meet quality, volume and cost demands.

The role has a hand full of direct reports (supervisors) who will be looking to this individual to further train and develop, bringing through talent and creating a 'can do' culture of precision, efficiency and innovation. This individual needs to be visible in role and take an enthusiastic interest in the welfare of the team, the quality of the product and seeking opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation. The appointed person will proactively lead the customer first mindset throughout all activities and championing the company in the face of customers, visitors and suppliers.

The individual therefore needs to be both technical and commercial and be comfortable operating in a matrix reporting environment where day to day visibility to the executive will in the main be remote combined with regular leadership visits from the executive and corporate functions where needed. The individual therefore will be expected to support the development and the delivery of the long-term strategy for the function and be comfortable at managing both near and mid-horizon projects and associated KPI's.

In short the primary responsibility of the individual will be to ensure organisational effectiveness by effectively leading on the manufacturing in its entirety for our assembly operations. The future prospects for the successful applicant are very promising. Prior experience therefore will be a must.

Qualifications

Ideally a degree in a technical discipline such as Electronic OR Mechanical Engineering.

An individual who has completed a Degree Apprenticeship combined with additional experience would also be considered.
