Why do children come into the care system?
The most common reason is neglect and the chaotic environment within the the birth family. It's important to understand the experiences of the young people you will look after. Chaotic households often lack stability and consistency and these can have a profound impact on a child. It's likely that there were no real routines, discipline or care. It is likely they will not have had their emotional needs met, they were not fed when they were hungry, not tended to if they were hurt or not comforted when they were feeling sad. This lack of empathy and care can have serious consequences.
