Citadel Source is delighted to be partnering a leading plc to support the search for a new Group Accountant.

The role

This is a fantastic opportunity for a technically strong and motivated finance professional to join the Group Finance team of a listed plc. As Group Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the production of statutory and management reporting, engaging with sustainability reporting initiatives, and contributing to the continuous development of the Group’s control framework. Working closely with the Group Financial Controller, you will also liaise with external auditors, partner with internal teams and support wider Group objectives through ad hoc projects.

About you

The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant with a strong grounding in technical accounting, consolidation and financial reporting. You’ll be analytical, detail-focused and proactive, with a keen interest in developing broader experience in ESG reporting and internal controls. The role suits a natural communicator who enjoys working collaboratively and influencing stakeholders, with a hands-on approach to financial delivery and control.

As the Group Accountant your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Actively support the preparation of half-year and year-end Group financial statements, taking ownership of assigned consolidation tasks and disclosures
  • Assist in coordinating the Group audit process, maintaining effective communication with external auditors
  • Prepare statutory accounts for the plc and related UK entities, ensuring timely submission and compliance
  • Work with subsidiary finance teams to support the completion of local financial statements
  • Draft technical accounting papers where required, and assess the impact of accounting standard changes
  • Contribute to share-based payments accounting and related disclosures
  • Support the evolution of the Group’s sustainability reporting to meet increasing stakeholder expectations and assurance levels
  • Partner with internal teams to integrate ESG metrics into performance monitoring and reporting
  • Prepare month-end reports and forecasts for the holding companies, including analysis of expenditure, accruals and variances
  • Understand and manage accounting risks within the plc’s holding entities
  • Assist in the ongoing review and enhancement of the Group’s accounting policies and control procedures
  • Monitor FX translation risk in collaboration with the Treasury team and ensure accuracy of swaps and forward contracts accounting

Qualifications and experience required:

  • Degree-educated and professionally qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA)
  • Experience working within a complex group structure, ideally within a listed environment
  • Strong technical knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting systems
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent organisational skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to manage relationships and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders
  • A proactive approach with a continuous improvement mindset
