About The Role

As a Support Worker providing Housing Related Support in our accommodation based Learning Disability Team, you will be providing support to persons at two of our Learning Disability Schemes in South Gloucestershire and assisting colleagues at two others. Your role will be to support LiveWest customers in maintaining their tenancies, ensuring that the live safely and making the best of their homes.

As part of your role you will support people to:
  • Pay their rent.
  • Deal with low level anti-social behaviour.
  • Organise activities to help build relationships with their neighbours.
  • Manage their tenancies.
  • Help improve their environment.
  • You will also be a point of contact, ensuring a smooth running of the schemes. A key part of the role will be forming professional relationships with the customers and signposting to other services where we are not able to assist them.
You will be supporting colleagues in two other schemes in South Gloucestershire to help fulfil contracted hours, cover annual leave and sickness.

This commissioned role is varied and will involve you working with our Housing Officer and individual Support Workers from other providers, to ensure that the best service and accommodation we can provide is achieved.

This role is being offered on a full time, 4 month fixed term basis as maternity cover. You will be working 37 hours per week to include occasional Saturday working (Any weekend hours worked can be taken back during the week.) Bandwidth hours will be 8am to 6pm.

About The Candidate

To be considered for the role of Support Worker - Learning Disabilities, you will be / have:
  • Be able to understand and communicate effectively with individuals with varying levels of need relating to their learning disabilities.
  • Work effectively with colleagues in coordinating and delivering services.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Have good IT skills.
  • Full valid UK driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle.
  • Be able to maintain effective electronic records and monitoring agreed action plans.
  • Have the ability to establish an effective working relationship with LD clients (demonstrating understanding of the challenges faced).
  • Maintain positive relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Be able to plan and manage workload, lone work safety and work as part of a team.
  • Clear understanding of diversity within a role dealing with vulnerable people.
  • Have the ability to promote independence and self-determination with individuals.
  • Have the ability to create creative and constructive relationships with individuals.
  • Confident in dealing with a wide range of people, able to read and assess difficult situations and provide solutions.
  • Ability to positively respond to change and a willingness to work flexibly; with different clients/colleagues and outside normal office hours to meet the needs of the clients
  • Be able to keep records including the creation and knowledge of what housing support is and the issues that people are facing. (D)
  • Understanding of training, employment, educational opportunities or social activities. (D)
  • Previous experience of working with vulnerable individuals. (D)
  • Knowledge and understanding of housing related support. (D)
  • Knowledge of the housing/benefits system. (D)
  • Experience of working in social housing. (D)
