KYN is a brand-new care home company focused on offering an elevated approach to care: Individualised journeys built around the needs and interests of our residents in beautiful surroundings with life-enriching practices.

Our first home, KYN BICKLEY, opened in February 2023. KYN BICKLEY is an 86-bedroom home offering each resident an elegant and comfortable bedroom, communal areas for dining and reclining; and inviting outdoor terraces overlooking landscaped gardens bordered by woodland. We have a further three care homes in development in London.

About the opportunity:

As a Life and Enrichment Wellbeing Lead you will be responsible for:

  • To research and source a broad and diverse range of individualised and group activities, events and experiences to enhance the well-being, physical and mental health of residents, ensuring that every KYN residents needs are exceeded
  • To deliver a calendar of events that offers a variety of seasonal, interesting and enriching activities, encompassing arts, music, movement, community, culture, nature and more, including trips out of the home too both locally and further afield when desired
  • To broaden KYNs network and build relationships with a wide variety of groups, societies, organisations and companies to ensure that our social and activities calendar is varied, interesting and fulfilling, not only bringing these groups into the home but also taking residents out to meet and connect externally
  • Engage with local community groups and create links to support intergenerational work, helping to boost self-esteem and ensuring residents feel part of the community they are based in, helping to improve quality of life
  • To continuously improve the programme of life enrichment, understanding resident engagement and well-being, and measuring the value of any activities
  • Work closely with the team to implement a whole home approach, to the provision of meaningful activity and occupation for all residents, taking a proactive attitude towards the engagement of all residents, in particular those living with dementia at all times
  • Work closely with the household teams to identify opportunities to promote well-being, activity and engagement. These may include assisting individuals to achieve personal goals regarding activities of daily living such as washing or dressing or planning how they spend their free time e.g., reading, singing, shopping, going to the cinema
  • To develop a listening and caring relationship with residents, providing conversation, companionship and support, and fully understanding their individual needs, favourite pastimes and interests
  • To utilize personal skills, interests, and hobbies to engage residents in meaningful interactions and conversations. Examples include singing, playing an instrument, sports, art, or craft.
  • To ensure choice is given to all residents in a way that that individuals can understand regardless of their physical and/or mental condition in accordance with the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • Where residents lack capacity to make specific decisions, to make decisions in their best interests as part of a multi-disciplinary team and in accordance with the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • To support and encourage residents to participate in activities and enable positive risk taking
  • Contribute to resident assessment using the PAL assessment tool, focusing on strengths and meaningful engagement.
  • Create and follow risk assessments based for each activity and each individual ensuring the safety of residents is paramount
  • To oversee the timely completion of all electronic and paper based life enrichment and well-being related documentation ensuring its accuracy and report any exceptions/concerns to the nurse/carer in charge
  • Actively seek feedback from residents, household staff and external activity providers on content and delivery of activities, and respond accordingly and appropriately
  • To communicate effectively and help to resolve any concerns that have been raised whilst working with the residents or members of the team
  • To lead, motivate and mentor your team to ensure that they build strong relationships with residents and deliver meaningful interactions
  • To support and develop new and less experience household team members through mentorship
  • To take responsibility for all aspects of Health and Safety of self, other team members, residents and all visitors under the Health and Safety regulations
  • To build relationships with any third-party companies/individuals and add to the KYN Activities contact database
  • To manage an annual budget in line with company expectations and effectively negotiate and agree costs with third-party suppliers accordingly
  • To ensure that all third-party suppliers have the appropriate insurance and deliver their services to the highest standards in a safe and nurturing manner
  • To stay up to date on all required relevant regulatory/statutory legislation, KYN policy and procedure and best practice guidance, ensuring that any changes are cascaded and understood by all suppliers
  • To attend all KYN mandatory training sessions making certain that practices reflect the learning outcomes of the training
  • To maintain confidentiality of information regarding residents, visitors, and team members
  • To report any concerns/suspicions of abuse in line with the organisations policy and procedure
  • To whistleblow if any bad practice or harm to a resident within the care home is witnessed (refer to Whistleblowing policy)
  • Be familiar with and promote KYNs values
  • To recognise the responsibility of all team members to make new residents, new team members and all visitors welcome and help to familiarise them with the home
  • To co-operate with, support and promote the work of colleagues regarding specific aspects of the home e.g. Infection Control
  • To report any hazards or potential hazards to the person in charge and take other appropriate action within the remit of your training and knowledge
  • To ensure that all data and information in relation to residents personal information is secure and confidential
  • To build personal and professional relationships with every member of the team
  • To comply with all KYN policies, standards, and toolkits
