Quantity Surveyor - required for our client based out of their office on the West of Edinburgh, 5 miles from Edinburgh Airport. The Quantity Surveyor will have the potential to develop into a Commercial Manager role working for our client who are a leading specialist within the telecommunication, utilities and construction industry. They operate across Scotland and work on some large scale and exciting projects the role will be mostly office based and a relatively small amount of site-based work

The Quantity Surveyor will be at least an intermediate level but ideally senior with experience in the Telecoms sector preferably but if not then the wider Utilities sector within Power / Gas / Water.

Quantity Surveyor Position Overview

  • Work with the client on the Early Contractor Involvement process (ECI) to identify costs and potential risks around the build.
  • Agree commercial solutions on a project-by-project basis taking account of the risks and issues raised, and ensuring client PO coverage is in place for all builds.
  • Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the client.
  • Review Planning packs: including materials, quantities, labour and time meet with the stated expectations of the client.
  • Daily use of system to raise payments, Early Warnings, programmes etc,
  • Negotiate contracts and work schedules.
  • Perform risk, value management and cost control during construction, including raising early warnings and compensation events, (CEs)
  • Work with project managers to accurately assess and apply for in build payment applications, within prescribed client timelines - including mobilisation, part payments and CEs.
  • Submit final accounts, completing final valuations and overseeing work completion packs and payments
  • Undertake cost analysis for non-standard and new works, including development of new rate codes as new technology changes build specifications.
  • Identify, analyse and develop responses to commercial risks.
  • Analyse outcomes and write detailed progress reports.

Quantity Surveyor Position Requirements

  • HND or Degree within a Quantity Surveying discipline
  • Experience in the Telecoms sector preferred but if not then the wider Utilities sector
  • Experience or preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities
  • Driving Licence
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations
  • Experience of Perform risk, value management
