Urenco; trusted, long-term supplier to the nuclear industry, specialising in safe, cost effective and reliable uranium enrichment services, are looking for a Commissioning Engineer on a contract basis (inside IR35), to be based in Capenhurst near Chester.

Rate: £55-65 Umbrella (Inside IR35)

Job Purpose
A flexible and diverse engineering role supporting the delivery of plant improvements and commissioning activities across UNS. Provides support to the Design Authority in the role of DAIC for Commissioning, interfacing with Engineering, Projects and Operations functions. Oversees control and testing of plant modifications.

Key dimensions

  • Works in a highly regulated environment.
  • Duly Authorised Person (DAP) for the control and supervision of Commissioning in line with LC21.
  • Provides support to Engineering and Projects functions in relation to all Acceptance and Commissioning activities and oversees the handover process.
  • Provides technical support, training and governance to Engineering and Projects functions in the role of Design Authority Intelligent Customer (DAIC).
  • Provides problem solving and project support to wider UNS functions.
  • Delivers improvement activities.


Experience needed

  • Several years commissioning and design support experience in a highly regulated industry.
  • Good understanding of other UNS disciplines, technologies, plant systems and processes.
  • Detailed knowledge of the different phases required in commissioning (FATs, SATs, etc.) and nuclear safety systems.
  • Experience in structured problem solving and root cause analysis (preferred).


Key internal and external relationships:
The key internal relationships for this role are with the Engineering, Projects and Operations functions. For Operations, the role ensures that Engineering and Projects deliver the required functional and safe designs and that all training, maintenance and operating processes are defined and adopted at handover. For both Engineering and Projects, the role assists the efficient delivery of plant changes by ensuring that modifications are carried out in a controlled manner with Operations possessing sufficient knowledge to correctly use the modification throughout its operational life.

Also for Engineering, the role provides DAIC capability. This includes duties such as: -

  • Ownership and review of commissioning and engineering standards.
  • Configuration management.
  • Design Authority approval of changes and acceptance of engineering deliverables.
  • Acting as a technical expert in Acceptance and Commissioning matters.


Accountability

  • Commissioning of new plant systems and plant modifications.
  • Supports the implementation of the UNS commissioning and acceptance process.
  • Nominated Subject Matter Expert (SME) for defined areas.
  • Handover of projects and modifications.


Vocational qualifications

  • HNC/HND/Degree in relevant Engineering discipline (Process or EC&I preferred).
  • EngTech, Incorporated or Chartered status preferred, although having an action plan in place to achieve one of these would be acceptable.


UNS Qualifications

  • DAP LC21
  • DAIC in specific field of engineering and commissioning
